About Me

Ok...So, I guess it would be nice to introduce the author of this blog (Me!) Well, my name is Sara Miller and I created this blog mainly to follow my experiences as a teacher in the deaf ed classroom. I just finished my 4th year of teaching and I am already so pumped to begin my 5th year! I currently teach at the West Tennessee School for the Deaf (a PreK-6 state elementary school). For the past two years, I have taught at the 5/6 grade level. This year, however, I will no longer be teaching 5/6 (as the number of students would be too high). I will get to teach one grade this year and I couldn't be more excited! I hope to share many adventures with y'all here on my blog...

On a more personal note, I have been happily married to a WONDERFUL man for 8 years! We are originally from Ohio, but have relocated to Tennessee. We are huge animal lovers! Throughout our marriage we have had many different species of animals that could create a small zoo...(a skunk, numerous snakes, geckos, and two sugar gliders are some of the more exotic animals that we've had). We currently have 2 dogs (Darla & Hank - who are basically our children), a cat (Bernadette), and 2 snakes (K2 and Perseus). As of now our 'zoo' is a relatively normal one, but you never know what the future holds! ;)

Another important thing to know about me is that I am deaf. Most people who meet me do not realize that I am deaf, as I speak well and read lips like a pro ;). However, when we are in noisy environments or low lighting, it becomes apparent. I was born with a severe to profound hearing loss and have worn hearing aids since I was 2 1/2. It is because of this that I decided to become a teacher of the deaf/hh. I wanted to be able to take my life experiences and become a mentor/role model for my students.  I recently received a cochlear implant and absolutely LOVE it! I will share my experiences in regards to my Cochlear Implant in another tab/page (Journey to My Cochlear Implant) for those of you who are interested in hearing more about it! :)

  1. Hi Sara - I'm a new blogger to the blogging world and I was just wondering if the title of your blog meant that you taught students that are deaf??

I took ASL classes all throughout my undergraduate these past few years and I absolutely LOVE the language.

    1. Lol...welcome to the blogging world! I am new as well!

Yes...I teach at a school for the deaf, so that's where my title comes from. Although, I am deaf as well. I am planning on writing more about that on this page soon....sharing my story, so to speak, about my journey through life as a person who is deaf. Check back in a day or so and hopefully I'll have something more posted!

Glad to hear that you enjoy signing! It really is such a neat language to be a part of... :)

      Thanks for visiting my blog!

    2. How cool - I'm happy to have met you!

    3. Also - where are you from in Ohio? I'm from a suburb right outside of Dayton, Ohio!

    4. I am from Northwest Ohio (about 45 minutes west of Toledo)... It's nice to meet you too! :)
